Winter is 30A's quiet season. From December through February the beaches are calm, the towns are lit up for the holidays and then settle down, and January brings one of the area's biggest music events. If you're a snowbird or just want a slower beach trip, here's what to expect.
30A winter weather
NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals for Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, the nearest official station, give a sense of a typical winter:

In other words, it's jacket weather in the evenings and often pleasant for beach walks, biking and outdoor lunches during the day. It's not swimming weather for most people, which is exactly why the beach feels so open.
What's happening on 30A in winter
- The holiday season (late November through New Year's Eve): tree lightings, the Seaside parade, holiday markets, free photos with Santa in Seaside Dec 12–23 and Seaside's New Year's Eve fireworks at 9 PM on Dec 31. See our 30A holiday season guide for dates.
- 30A Songwriters Festival, Jan 15–18, 2027: 160+ songwriters, 300+ performances and about 30 venues across South Walton, with Friday kickoff headliners at the Seaside Amphitheater and the main stage at Grand Boulevard's Town Center in Miramar Beach. Tickets are sold through the festival.
- Everyday winter pleasures: walking the towns, the 30A Farmers' Market at Rosemary Beach, and paddling or wildlife watching around Lake Powell, the coastal dune lake that borders Inlet Beach.
A snowbird guide to staying on 30A
If you're thinking about a longer winter stay, a condo can be easier than a hotel:
- Laundry and a kitchen: you can pack light and cook most meals. Publix has a store at Watersound Town Center (11291 US Hwy 98 E, Inlet Beach).
- A walkable beach: winter beach walks are a big part of the appeal, so being a short walk from the sand matters more than a pool view.
- Holiday closures: Publix closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, so stock up the day before.
- Ask about longer dates: availability for weekly or monthly winter stays varies, so email us your dates and we'll check with our manager.
Golden Hour Dunes in winter
Golden Hour Dunes is a top-floor, one-bedroom condo in the Inlet Dunes community on the east end of 30A. It sleeps six (a king bedroom, a hallway bunk nook and a queen sleeper sofa), has a full kitchen, an in-unit washer and dryer and a private balcony, and shares a community pool. The sand is about a two-minute walk away, and Rosemary Beach is about five minutes by car. It is a third-floor walk-up, and it books through our local manager, Ocean Reef Resorts.
In winter, that adds up to a quiet top-floor base with a washer and dryer for a longer stay, a kitchen for home-cooked dinners and a short walk to empty winter beaches.
